Information for non-US citizens

  • Visa. Please register at the Harvard International Office in the Smith Center 864, 1350 Massachusetts Avenue.

  • Tax compliance. You must complete a FNIF (Foreign National Information Form). Please check with your department administrator about this form, as some will request that you complete it at the same time as your I-9 form. If not, you can also do this at the Nonresident Alien Tax Compliance Office at 1033 Massachusetts Avenue, 2nd Floor (corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Trowbridge Street). This is about halfway between Harvard Square and Central Square. Please bring your passport and Visa documents with you. At that time, they will determine whether you are eligible for a tax treaty.

  • Social Security Card. If you do not already have a social security card, you must apply for one once you have been in the U.S. for 10 days. Click here for more information on the process.

  • Other useful documents: Massachusetts id card, or a driving licence
