SUMMARY:Networking for Introverts
DESCRIPTION:<p><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">Some of us will never enjoy walking into a room of strangers and having to make connections. Does that mean we’re doomed professionally? Not at all!<br></span><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">Maya Townsend, founder and lead consultant at Partnering Resources, will explain something of the science behind networking. She’ll show how that science can help engineers, technologists, and introverts make connections successfully and strategically. She’ll draw on insights from researchers and practitioners in the social sciences and business to explain the networking practices of high performers. Maya will dispel the myth that people who want strong networks should never eat alone and, instead, explain the simple actions that can significantly contribute to the health of their network.</span><br><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">If you attend this session, you can expect to come away with</span><br><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">    •    An understanding of some of the science behind networking</span><br><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">    •    An ability to identify networking practices of high performers</span><br><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">    •    A first-pass analysis of your professional network’s strengths and gaps</span><br><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">And if time allows, we’ll try to identify and understand which network traps you are most likely to fall into, and how to avoid them.</span><br><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">This event is a collaboration between the Society of Professional Consultants with WEST – Women in the Enterprise of Science and Technology.</span><br><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">About the Speaker:</span><br><span style="font-family: times new roman, times; font-size: large;">Maya Townsend went from hiding in the corner at networking events to leading a company (Partnering Resources) that helps individuals, teams, and organizations thrive in our networked world.
