 This second workshop intensive focuses on handling challenging situations, celebrating achievements, and supporting student science writing. Through discussion of case studies, you will learn about common mistakes in mentorship and strategies to prevent and address problems. We will also discuss ways to recognize and celebrate success of your mentees. The second part of the mentoring workshop focuses on supporting student science writing. Through examination and analysis of undergraduate writing, you will explore strategies to help you support and improve your mentees skills in writing scientific proposals and abstracts without rewriting those documents yourself. The second part of the mentoring workshop focuses on developing undergraduate research projects. Mentoring an undergraduate can be both rewarding and challenging. In this workshop, you will learn how to design undergraduate-friendly research projects, set appropriate expectations, and foster effective communication. We’ll discuss several cases studies to explore these topics in more detail.
