This presentation, led by Rachael Dane, Director of FAS Media Relations, seeks to offer background on media relations, including interview tricks and tools, information on “pitching" reporters, and information on how the FAS Media Relations Team can support your work at Harvard.

In preparation for this presentation, please feel free to submit responses to the following questions to Rachael at [Rachael\_Dane@Harvard.edu](mailto:///Rachael_Dane@Harvard.edu) by Tuesday, November 10, ahead of the training. These responses will help Rachael narrowly tailor a presentation and discussion that will best suit needs.

1. Have you ever spoken with a reporter before about your work?
2. How frequently do you engage with the media?
3. Do you engage with “Main Stream Media” or more “Journals?”
4. Do you feel comfortable with speaking with reporters? If not, why?
5. Do you know what “On the Record,” “On background,” and “Off the Record,” means?
6. What are your goals in learning more about working with media as part of your research or academic work?
