**Speaker**: Lori Conlan, Ph.D., Director, Office of Postdoctoral Services and Office of Career Services, NIH, Washington D.C. - **Managing Up** Your success depends on having a collaborative learning relationship with your primary research supervisor(s) and cultivating strong mentor relationships, inside and outside of the research group. This workshop will explore the relationship between trainees and research mentors/supervisors with the goal of providing strategies for improving communication and interpersonal interactions. The workshop will help you to clarify what you need from your supervisors and mentors and how to ensure that they get what they need.

- **Management 101** Management of people and resources is a key component to being successful as you move forward in your career. This session will provide an overview of common management concepts that are not often taught in a lab environment, such as what to look for in a new hire, how to motivate your staff and how to manage conflict. The topics covered will be applicable to all sectors (academics, industry, non-profits, government, etc.).
