We'll discuss why diversity, inclusion, and belonging are important in both academia and industry, and explore how you can foster an inclusive environment in your classroom, your lab, or any future professional setting. The session will be both interactive and introspective to help you to develop your personal diversity statement and to plan how you will incorporate inclusive practices into your professional life.

**Presenters:** Alexis Stokes, Ed.D., Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Benita Wolff, Equity & Inclusion Administrative Fellow in the Division of Science.

Testament from a postdoc who attended a previous workshop:

##### I had generally considered myself to be a fairly "woke" person, and generally fairly cognizant of the adversity facing minority students as well as my implicit privileges as a white person. Attending the Diversity workshop helped me realize how narrow those perceptions were, broaden my awareness, and acknowledge my privilege. This in turn helped me craft a genuine and informed Diversity Statement for my applications for faculty positions. In one of my interviews this fall, I was told that the Diversity Statement was used as the first filter in assessing the pool of faculty candidates. Monica McCallum, CCB.
